          Turkish Style Oven Baked Mackerel Fillets


      When the winter season comes, many many tons of fish are caried by the Turkish Fishermen from Aegean, Marmara, Black and Mediterranean sea for the Turkish people. Because, that time means that Turkish people' delicious fish dishes season starts. Along the coast of the regions of Turkey (cities on Aegean Region or cities on coast of Aegean sea, cities on Marmara region or cities on coast of Marmara Sea, cities on Black Sea region or cities on coast of Black Sea, cities on Mediterranean region or cities on coast of Mediterranean Sea) are the center of fish markets of the Turkey. Especially small fish, such as; Horse Mackerel, Anchovies and Whitting, are caught in the BlackSea and other sea. What about other fish or big fish? Ofcourse, we love mackerel,  blue-fish, bonito-fish etc. Bye the way our roasted mackerel recipes are very famous and popular in Turkey. But Anchovy and horse mackerel are more prefered.  "Winter started! Winter without fish never"


         Actually, we, Turkish people, only love to consume fish in cold times or in winter times. We dont know! Why? But, we love fish in snowy times very much. Generally, fish sales decrease in the spring and summer times, in Turkey. Plus, when the winter season comes, many Greengrocers turn to fish Mongers. Also, when you come to our country and you find Turkish people very interesting because of they only eat fish floured and deep fried or grilled or roasted. Generally, Tourists or visitors come from the abroad to Turkey have the impression that Turkish people only eat fish floured and deep fried or grilled or sometimes floured and oven baked, and sonetimes it does seem that way because those cooking methods are so appealing. This especially true in coastal cities on the Aegean Region and central Anatolia. Mackerel is most popular when the fish are rich and fatty in December and January (especially; roasted mackerel with garlic and Paprika or roasted mackerel with Bay leaves and lemon slices are very famous and very yummy).          How to Make Turkish Style Oven Baked Mackerel? 


         In this post, we are sharing a very healthy and yummy dish, that is high in omega-3 oils. It is "Turkish Style Oven Baked Mackerel Recipe (oven cook mackerel fillets)".          So, here is an our cooking methot of Mackerel for you. It is one of our popular oven baked mackerel recipes; We use the oven. After brushing the mackerel fillets with some of the extra virgin olive oil and season with a teaspoon of red flakes pepper, ground black pepper, salt and place the cornmeal (or Wheat flour) in a plate and dip the mackerel fillets by holding from its edge, to remove the excess flour, shake the fish fillets off and salt. If you want, you may add more spicies. Then, Yes, you are ready to cook.

         Recipe of Turkish Style Oven Baked Mackerel


         Here it is our very yummy, healthy and high in omega-3 oil fish dish recipe. "Turkish Style Baked Anchovy (Roasted mackerel fillet)" Recipe;

        Serving: 4 people, Preparation Time: 10 minutes, Cooking Time: 10-15 minutes, Cuisine: Mediterranean & Anatolian Cuisines, 

       Ingredients:

      - 4 or 5 Mackerel fillets,
      - 1/2 or 1 Cup seasoned Cornmeal (or Wheat flour, but Cornmeal is better),
     - 2 Tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, (or Canola, or Corn oil, but extra virgin olive oil is better),
       - 1 Teaspoon salt to taste, (1 teaspoon Ground Black pepper to taste, 1 teaspoon Red Flakes pepper to taste, 1 teaspoon Dried Thyme to taste, also -All spicies are optional-)
       - 1 Normal size onion, chopped,
       - 2 or 3 Green peppers, (if you want, you can use green chilli peppers),
       - 1/2 Lemon, sliced,
       - Bay leaves, (10-12 bay leaves),

         Preparation:


        Generally, We buy mackerel fish as fillets, but, if you buy whole fish. Firstly you should clean and take the head off your mackerels. At the same time, preheat the your oven to 200°C (392°F)/ Gas -6. Then, brush your mackerel fillets with some of the extra virgin olive oil and season with a teaspoon of red flakes pepper, ground black pepper and salt and place the cornmeal (or Wheat flour) in a plate and dip the mackerel fillets by holding from its edge, to remove the excess flour, shake the fish fillets off and salt. If you want, you may add more spicies. Now, you are ready to cook. Place on a baking tray (or line a baking sheet with parchment paper and brush lightly with olive oil), lay the mackerel fillets skin side up on the paper and then place your green peppers, lemon slices, bay leaves and chopped onions to taste your dish, then bake in the oven for 8-10 or 9-15 minutes, until cooked through. Then, remove your mackerel dish from the oven and leave to rest. This process takes couple of minutes, then transfer to plates. It is done. You can serve.
