Turkish Style Baked Anchovy (Fırında Hamsi)




      BAKED ANCHOVY


      Anchovies (Hamsi = Pron: Hum/see) are small fish caught in the BlackSea and eaten throughout the Anatolia/Turkey. Anchovy can be cooked in a variety of ways in Anatolian Cousine. Such as, "Fried Anchovy (Hamsi Tava)", "Anchovy Rice (Hamsili Pilav)-Anchovy Pilaf - " and "Poached Anchovy - Anchovy Stew".

      Who knows! Maybe, one day, you and your family decide to visit Turjey in fall or winter seasons. And you try to meals of Anchovies. We are sure that you enjoy this teeny tiny bite-size fish during their seasons (fall and winter). And, you dont be afraid to bite right into them, because their bones are crunchy and perfectly safe to eat (even for kids and elderly people who have chewing problem).

      Today, we are sharing that "Turkish Style Baked Anchovy - Firinda da Hamsi-".

      So here is an alternative cooking methot of Anchovy for you. Use the oven. After mixing the Anchovies with olive oil and sprinkle with Seasoned Corn flour (or Wheat flour) and salt, you may add some spicies (butvspicies are optional); you are ready to cook. 

      "Turkish Style Baked Anchovy" Recipe;

        I n g r e d i e n t s :

       - 1 kg Fresh or Frozen Anchovy - cleaned- (if Anchovies frozen, defrosted them),
       - 2 Tablespoons Seasoned Corn flour (or Wheat flour),
        - 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil,
        - 1 Teaspoon Salt to taste, (1 teaspoon Ground Black Pepper to taste, 1 teaspoon Red Flakes Pepper to taste, 1 teaspoon Dried Thyme to taste, -All these spicies are optional-) 
        - 1/2 Lemon sliced,
        - Bay leaves,


        P r e p a r a t i o n :

        Servings: 6 Servings,  Preparation Time: 15-20 minutes, Cook Time: 15-20 minutes,


        First of all, clean and take the head off the fish and place them in layers in a large greased oven tray (set all Anchovies as flat as possible so they are not one on top of the other). Sprinkle with olive oil, mix Anchovies so all of them are oiled. (If you want to use spicies, add ground pepper, red flakes pepper and dried thyme- they are optional). Then, sprinkle seasoned Corn flour and salt and add lemon slices, a couple of bay leaves. Cook in a preheated oven at 180°C/350°F until they start to look golden brown and crispy. Serve as soon as they are ready with seasonal salat.
