We enjoy the cooler weather and look forward to autumn season each year. It is our favorite season. Autumn season is coming and weathers turn to cool here. After the autumn season cold winter season will come. Fortunately, Anatolian (Turkish) Cuisine isn't all just summer dishes and summer side dishes (meze dishes). Because, our Cuisine has lost of autumn/winter dishes. They are pot-dishes, stews and casseroles that are great for cool autumn days or icy and colder winter days when you need something warm and wholesome inside you. We call them "Tencere yemekleri", "Güveç yemekleri".

In autumn and winter months, we use root vegetables like potatoes, beetroots, as well as leeks etc,. In this whole some dish. It also tastes better next day and freezer well. Especially, In cool and cold days, we cook watery potatoes dish alot. 

In this post, we are going to share our one of the most simple, tasty and easy pot dishes with you. It is "Turkish Watery Potatoes Dish (Sulu Patates Yemeği)". It is very simple and easy pot dish. This dish from our childhood. At that times, we made it with our moms in our kitchens. At that times, everything was organics delicious but now it is not like that.

Froeigners who live in Turkey, firstly learn this easy pot dish and cook it alot. Also, university students who live a way from his/her family cook this simple pot dish alot.

How to Make Turkish Watery Potatoes (Sulu Patates Yemeği)!

Our many froeigner friends/neighbours (from Germany, England, France, Russian etc) who live in Turkey, mostly said that "Turkish watery potaoes is another simple Turkish recipe that we first learned while living in Turkey. We love it very much and cooked it alot until we learn others". 

This recipe is really super easy and simple pot dish recipe. It is not complicated. We are sure, when you try it, you absolutely like it. We especially cook it alot in autumn and winter days. It makes a nice, light lunch that is perfect for Anatolia's rainy autumn and winter days. 

In this post, we share its very simple and easy version of recipe. It is also very budget friendly recipe. For its simple version of recipe; you need that potatoes, onions, tomatoes paste and oil. But, if you want, you can add chopped green peppers, tomatoes, cubed chicken or meat in it.
 
We always cook this dish in the pot with mouth open. So that, potatoes cubes can't be melted or can't be shredded in the pot.

Recipe for Turkish Watery Potatoes (Sulu Patates Yemeği)


Our "Turkish Watery Potatoes (Sulu Patates Yemeği)" always makes a budget-friendly, delicious and nutritious meal. Here it is our Turkish watery potatoes recipe;

Serve: 4 servings, Preparation Time: 10 minutes, Cooking Time: 25-30 minutes, Type: 100% Vegetarian, Cuisine: Mediterranean & Anatolian Cuisines,

What do you put in a turkish potato casserole?
Ingredients: 4 or 5 Normal size potatoes.


Are there any mouth watering foods in turkey?
Ingredients: olive oil and sunflower oil. Or you can use only 
Sunflower oil or olive oil.

Ingredients: tomatoes paste and pepper paste.

and red pepper flakes

Then stir the mixture over high heat until the onions are soft.

Then add cubed potatoes into mixture and stir.

Meanwhile add a pinch of salt, ground black pepper
 and red pepper flakes and stir.

Cook potatoes mixture for about 20-25 minutes
or until potatoes done.

Cook potatoes dish in pot with mouth open.
So that, potatoes cubes cant be melted or shredded.

Then remove the pot from heat. Let it cool for couple of minutes

Serve warm and serve with red pepper flakes

Turkish cracked wheat pilaf (bulgur pilaf) and
 Turkish Pickles go well with this dush


Ingredients:
  • 4 or 5 Potatoes (cubed),
  • 1 Normal size onion, chopped finely,
  • 1 Tablespoon tomatoes paste and 1 Tablespoon pepper paste, (if you want, you can only use tomatoes paste),
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil and 1 tablespoon sunflower oil, (if you want, you can only use one öf them),
  • A pinch of salt, ground black pepper and red pepper flakes to taste,
  • 2 or 3 Cups hot water, 

Preparation:
  1. First of all, put your all ingredients on your work surface. Peel your potatoes and cut them into cube size (not too big and not too small). Then wash your potatoes well and set aside. Then In a medium-large pot, Add oil, chopped onions, tomato and pepper paste, and stir over high heat until your onions are soft. 
  2. Then add cubed potatoes and a pinch of salt, ground black pepper and red pepper flakes to taste and cook them for about 5-10 minutes stirring occasionally. 
  3. Then add 2 or 3 cups of hot water or add hot water until food is covered. 
  4. Then cook until potatoes are done (this process takes 20 or 25 minutes). We always cook potatoes in the pot with mouth open. So that, potatoes cubes can't be melted or can't be shredded in the pot. 
  5. Serve with red pepper flakes to season.
