Turkish Lady's Thigh Meatballs (Kadınbudu Köfte) Recipe
There are many Turkish dishes that they have got very interesting or funy names, such as; Vizier's Fingers in Syrup or Grand Vizier's Finger (Vezir Parmağı Tatlısı) Dessert, Lady's Belly Dessert (Hanım Göbeği Tatlısı), The Priest Fainted (Imam Bayıldı Dish) Dish, A Beautiful Woman's Lips (Dilber Dudağı) Dessert. Lady Thigh Meatballs or (Kadınbudu Köfte) is another Turkish dish with a funy name. In Anatolia (Turkey), we call it in Turkish: "Kadınbudu Köfte", it could be translated into English as literally "Lady Thigh Meatballs". LOL! We made some research, asked our elderlies (grandmothers, grandfathers etc.) to learn the story behind this name, but couldn’t find anything. According to our some elderlies; we can just say that the shape of Lady's Thigh Meatballs (Kadinbudu Kofte) looks like typical Ottoman women’s thighs of the past. They were generally abit fat ladies at that times. But, todays Turkish women look as slim as models these days. How to Make Turkish Lady's Thigh Meatballs (Kadınbudu Köfte)?
Lady’s thigh meatballs have a golden and a bit crunchy crust and it is tender inside. Rice inside gives a very nice texture and its flavor is so compatible with ground beef (or ground lamb). Lady’s thigh meatballs (or Kadınbudu Köfte) is a very traditional Turkish meatball. Firstly, let us to explain one thing; Please Don't Worry! This recipe is not complicated, it is very easy and it is very simple meatball recipe. The main ingredients for Lady’s thigh meatballs are really very simple; ground beef or lamb, rice, egg, onion, parsley. Its characteristics are that the ground meat (beef or lamb) is mixed with rice, it is covered with beaten eggs and flour (all porpuse flour) and dried bread powder and fried in a pan (fried meatball recipe). That's it. Bye the way, when Lady’s thigh meatballs are shaped, not like normal meat balls, they are shaped a bit elliptic and each one is made quite big so eating one of them already makes you full. Ingredients: Ground beef, rice, olive oil Sunflower oil for frying |
Ingredients: Flour, dried bread powder, onions Eggs, parsley |

Wash rice and drain |
Boil rice in a little water |
Chop the onions and parsley for mixture Of meatballs |
Heat the olive oil and ground beef and onions |
Mix cooked ground beef & onion with raw Ground beef, egg yolk and parsley |
Then add boiled rice and knead. Then shape Your meatballs |
For coating: flour, dried bread powder and eggs |
Coat meatballs with flour then beaten egg Then dried bread powder |
Fry them in sunflower oil over medium heat For 5-7 minutes |
Serve warm or cold with french fries |

Lady's Thigh Meatballs Dish Recipe (Kadınbudu köfte recipe);
Very good family favourite;
Serve: 4-5 servings, Preparation Time: 10-13 minutes, Cooking Time: 20 minutes, Cuisine: Mediterranean & Anatolian Cuisines,
Ingredients:
For Lady's Thigh Meatballs:
- 500 - 600 gr Ground beef (or ground lamb, or mixture of both of them), (divide your meat 2 halves pieces, because we use one of them is as raw and other part is cooked),
- 2 Normal size onions, finely chopped,
- 2 Tablespoons olive oil,
- 4 or 4,5 Tablespoons Rice,
- 1/2 Bunch of parsley, chopped,
- 1/2 Teaspoon cumin,
- 1 Teaspoon Ground black pepper,
- 1/2 Teaspoon salt,
- 1 Egg yolk,
For Coating of Lady's Thigh Meatballs:
- 3 Eggs,
- 4 or 5 Tablespoons all purpose flour,
- 4 or 5 Tablespoons Dried bread powder,
For Frying of Lady's Thigh Meatballs:
- 1 Cup sunflower oil enough to fry,
Preparation:
- First of put your all ingredients on your work surface, Let's we start to wash rice and drain. Then, boil it in a little water until it is slightly tender.
- Then, heat the 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium-high flame in a skillet. Add your onion and saute until translucent, it takes 3 or 4 minutes. Then, add half of the ground beef or lamb and cook, and set the raw ground beef or lamb aside. Stir fry ground beef and onions for 5-7 minutes. Then, take it from the heat when ground beef absorbs its juice and remove the meat and onions mixture to a large bowl.
- After the cooked meat has cooled down, combine boiled rice, cooked ground beef, raw ground beef, chopped parsley, salt and spices and egg yolk in a large bowl. Then, mix all the meat balls ingredients together well, kneading the mass with your hands until it is fairly smooth.
- Then, cover and leave the meatball mixture in the fridge for about 15- 20 minutes to settle. Then, spread the all purpose flour and dried bread powder on a flat plate and then beat 3 eggs in another bowl. And have small bowl of cold water aside to help shape the meatballs. Then, wet your hands and take large egg sized portions of the meatballs mixture. Shape and flatten them into an oval ball shape. Repeat this process until all the mixture is finished.
- Then, Heat your sunflower oil. And first coat your meatballs with flour and then with beaten egg and then with dried bread powder. After these processes; fry them in sunflower oil over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes. Also, if you have a non stick pan, You can fry your meatballs with less oil in it.
- Serve warm or cold with french fries, diced tomatoes, onions and green peppers. Also, our traditional shepherd’s salad goes well with Lady's Thigh Meatballs. We are sure that you like our Turkish-shepherd-salad-recipe and Mixed-cabbage-slaw-recipe
