    How to Make Turkish Style Green Peas, Carrots and Potatoes in Olive Oil (Zeytinyagli Taze Bezelye)


         Green peas and carrots with olive oil dish is one of the most common olive oil dish and popular recipe among the vegan recipes in the Anatolian (Turkish) Cuisine. Turkish people love it very much. It was usually made in the summer months when the peas are in season and deliciously fresh. However, with freezer becoming staple household people start to pod them and freeze for the winter months. But, we always prefer to fresh green peas in summer times. In Anatolia, we and many friends of us like to cook vegetarian style green peas dish (green peas + carrots + potatoes with olive oil). Actually, the green peas dish is made in three different ways; vegetarian, with ground meat (it is waste of peas if you ask us), and with stew beef.           Maybe you ask that; "how do you use frozen green peas?" We love using fresh peas for this dish. But you can definitely use frozen peas as well.          Here it us our very yummy Turkish Style Green Peas, Carrots and Potatoes in Olive Oil (Zeytinyagli Taze Bezelye) Dish's recipe;

         Serve: 4 - 6 servings, Preparation Time: 10-15 minutes, Cooking Time: 60 minutes, Food Type: 100% Vegetarian, Cuisine: Mediterranean/Anatolian Cuisine, 

         Very good family favourite;

         Ingredients: 

       - 1 kg Fresh Green peas or frozen peas, (we recommend that gresh green peas),
         - 1 Medium size carrot, diced or halved about 0,65cm - 1/4 inch thick,
     - 1 Medium size potatoes, peeled and diced, 
         - 1 Medium size onion, chopped,
         - 2-3 Cloves garlic, peeled and sliced,
         - 1 Tablespoon tomato paste and pepper paste, (if you want, you can use grated fresh tomayoes), 
         - A handful of parsley or dill, chopped,
         - 2 Tablespoons olive oil,
       - A pinch of ground black pepper to taste,        - A pinch of red flakes pepper to taste, 
       - A pinch of salt to taste, 

       Preparation: 

  1. First of all, put your all ingredients on your work surface (work table). Then, heat olive oil in a cast iron pot or a heavy bottom pot on medium heat. Then, add your chopped onion, sliced garlic, diced carrots and potatoes and fry until they are soft (this process takes nearly 5-7 minutes).
  2. Then, Add carrots and tomato and pepper pastes and stir for another five minutes. Then, add more hot water (just enough to cover them all) and at the same time add your peas into pot. 
  3. Then, Cover and once it start boiling reduce the heat and simmer until peas are cooked (this process takes nearly 1 hour). Bye the way, dont forget to add salt, ground black pepper and red fkakes pepper to your taste. 
  4. Lastly sprinkle with dill or parsley and serve immediately. Without stew we smash all these half cooked veggies stuff this and make Samosa Snacks also..so awesome combo ji😋😋👌
