Fava Beans with Olive Oil Recipe




         Fresh Broad Beans With Olive Oil Dish

         In Spring Months; April and May are the cooking of Fava Beans/Broad Beans time. Generally, most Turk8sh people buy Fava Beans and cook in spring times.

         - You have not cooked Fava Beans yet!.... Oh No, YOU SHOULD RUSH!!!!, please buy one kilo fresh Fava Beans and cook it soon!!!! Because it is so delicious!!!!, and SO NUTRITIOUS!!!!  

         Fava Beans or Broad Beans are among the oldest cultivated plants in Turkey, Although they have been planted and enjoyed throughout the Middle East, Europe, and some of the regions of America.

         When we were children, in our hometown, our moms mostly called it "Horse Beans". We are not sure that whether this name is used in other regions of the world. At that times, most of the children of our town didn't like "Fava Beans" and they often said: "Mom i dont like it, it is not vegetable, it is Caterpillars!!!!"
 
         According to nutrition experts; "Fava Beans are the energy boosting and heart - healty legumes or heart-friendly vegetable that can treat Parkinson illnes".


         Here it is our "Fresh Fava Beans Olive Oil Recipe";

         Serves: 6 - 8 People,  Preparation: 20 minutes, Cook Time: 45-50 minutes, 100% Vegan,

         Ingredients:

         - 500 gr Fresh Fava Beans (or 1 kg frozen Fava Beans),
         - 1 Small Size Onion, finely chopped,
         - 2 Cloves of Garlic, finely choped or minced,
         - 2 Tablespoons Tomato Paste,
         - 1 Teaspoon Granulated Sugar,
         - 1 Teaspoon Salt,
         - 1/3 Cup Olive Oil,
         - 1 Cup hot water,
         - 1 or 2 Tablespoons Flour,
         - Juice of half lemon,

         For on top: 

         - 1/2 Bunch Dill, Chopped, (or garlic yogurt)

         Preparation:

         First of all, cut the Fava Beans heads with a knife. Divide fava beans half and wash them well. Then, take a small bowl and chop the garlic, finely. Then, add flour, granulated sugar, salt, 1/3 Cup Olive Oil, lemon juice, tomato paste, and 3 or 4 Tablespoons water in a small bowl and stir well. Now your mixture or your sauce of fava beans dish is ready. After this process, take a large deep pan and put 3 Tablespoons Olive oil in a large pot. Then, add the onions and garlic. Sauté over medium heat for about couple of minutes (1-2 minutes). Then, add Fava Beans. Now, put the prepared sauce (or garlic, flour, granulated sugar, salt, olive oil, lemon juice and water mixture) onto pan. Keep cooking for about another 2 minutes. Finally, add hot water. Make sure the water covers the beans. Then close the Lid of pot. Cook over low heat for about 40-50 minutes.

           When the fresh fava beans with olive oil dish is ready, turn off the heat, annd, let it cool. Fava beans with olive oil dish like the all other Turkish olive oil dishes are served at room temperature or cold. Serve with chopped dill top. Also, this dish is enjoyed with garlic yogurt.

         How to prepare Garlic Yogurt:

         For every cup of yogurt (also you may visit our homemade-yogurt-recipe) use 1/2 Cloves minced garlic. Mix yogurt, garlic, and very little water well. Then add alittle salt to taste, and serve this sauce on the side of fava Beans or on top.
