How to Make Super Easy Homemade Peach Jam?

In this post, we are going to share our super easy homemade peach jam recipe to you. It is very popular among the homemade jam recipes. To make the recipe of peach jam, you basically combine the peaches, sugar and a bit of lemon juice (or lemon salt) in a saucepan. Is it hard to make jam? It is very simple, super easy and not complicated.

Maybe, you think that these questions and want to get their answers; here these are answers and the peach jam recipe tips: 

  • Question: "What kind of peach can we use for the peach jam?" Answer: Generally people who cook peach jam, use ripe peaches, not over ripe, but soft and ready to eat. But, we used hard peaches for the jam and result was perfect. We recommend that use hard ones. "Do you have to peel peaches for jam?" You should peel the peaches for getting good quality jam.
  • Question: "Do you have any advice on "canning safety" regarding this peach jam's recipe? She asked this question and worried it, because she heard that so many people talking about boiling jars or other cleaning processes. Answer: We don't remember that our grandmothers or moms boiling the jars. Just wash them in the dishwasher then pour the jam in them.
  • Question: "When you leave the peaches, sugar and water in a large cooking pot overnight, before cooking, do you put it in the refrigerator?" Answer: No refrigerator or other cold place, just leave it on the counter.
  • Question: "We wonder that why you add water to peaches and sugar mixture? We noticed that other people's recipes do not add water to peach jam." Answer: In this recipe we used hard peaches. Actually, we prefer to hard peaches for the jam and they need water. But  don't add much water, 2 Cups of water enough for the 1 kg peaches. Generally, people prefer to soft peaches for the jam, so it creates more juice and you don't need to add water. Everyone has their own way to cook. Sometimes, it changes region to region. We don't check how the others cook their own jams, we only obey our own way.
  • Question: "We wonder that; would cooking the mixture 40 minutes make the jam thick enough?, how do you thicken homemade peach jam? What would happen if we cook longer period?" Answer: Some people like thick jam while some don't like it. If you cook longer it may get thicken jam. If you don't like, you can add a little bit of hot water to dilute it.

Ingredients:

  • Couple of (3-4 or more) Glass jars, washed well,
  • 750 gr or 1 kg Hard peaches, peeled, seeds discarded, cut into medium size cubes (chunks),
  • 750 or 800 gr (3 - 3,5 cups) granulated sugar,
  • 2 Cups or glasses of water, (if your peaches are ripen and soft, you don't need to use water), 
  • 2 Tablespoons Lemon juice or 1/2 Teaspoon Lemon salt (lemon salt or lemon juice makes your jam shiny and by the help of it, you can save your jam for a long time in your pantry), 
  • 1/2 or 1 Teaspoon butter, (for decreasing foam, when your jam boiling), 

Preparation:

  1. First of all, put your all ingredients on the work surface. Then, peel your peaches and cut them in cubes or any shape you like (but not thin). Then, place your peaches, granulated sugar and water in a large cooking pot. Cover the lid and leave overnight (not keep in the refrigerator overnight). 
  2. The following morning cook your mixture with 1/2 or 1 teaspoon Butter (for decreasing foam) at medium heat and stir until the sugar dissolves (melts). If it happens, remove the scum or foam from the surface. 
  3. Keep cooking the jam mixture. Then, lower the heat to under medium heat and cook for about 25-30 minutes until the your jam become thickens. 
  4. Keep cook the peaches mixture and stirring continuously to avoid boil-overs. Then, stir in lemon juice or lemon salt and cook for extra 3-4 minutes.
  5. After these processes, take the pot from the heat. Then, pour your peach Jam into a clean, dry and warm jar or jars while it is still hot, then close the lid. Store in a dark and cool place or store in the refrigerator.
  6. You can serve peach jam in breakfast. Especially in winter mornings, peach jam or strawberry jam or sour cherry jam and bread go well with the hot tea.
